Summer time! I'm in the mood for creating a contemporary patio design. I've been working on a pool deck and outdoor dining of a hotel project this week so I came across a lot of interesting outdoor lounge furniture that would be fun to put together. If I were to design an outdoor pool deck for a young single gal, this would be it.

Eversince I started working in a hospitality design firm, my attention automatically zooms in to details every time I enter a room. This growing fascination for materials and spaces seem to consume most of my thoughts and even those expected idle minutes of the day are spent browsing through design magazines and reading design articles, hence my absence on the blog.
Nobu Deluxe King |
I found this guestroom design of The Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and was captivated by the artful rhythm of the materials in the carpet design, graphic wall artwork, wood finish, fabric and accessories. The Nobu Hotel and Restaurant was designed by David Rockwell. Partners, Chef Nobu and Robert de Niro worked closely with him in achieving both of their vision by their involvement in the selection of design elements.
Custom 'Shodo' style calligraphy is the main focal point of the guest room feature wall. Art by up-and coming Japanese artists can also be seen in some of the rooms. The simplicity of the natural materials from the stone tiles to the teak furniture emanate comfort and tranquility throughout the rooms.
Sake Suite |
I will definitely have to see this for myself should I visit Las Vegas one day.
Bon Week-end!

Contemporary living area design by Minotti with Powell.112 spacious sofa ideal for frequently used lounging space of rest and relaxation in a neutral color scheme. I personally like its composition, depth and low sofa back rest, balanced by lots of cushions. The overall look and feel is welcoming.

Artwork does wonders for a space especially when selecting the right one. I was particularly smitten when I saw these graphic artwork prints by Elei. I have featured her before in the Artist of the Week Series. Her colorful geometrical prints with inspiring quotes are definitely eye catching and they somehow add a touch of rhythm and movement to an otherwise lifeless wall.
Elei offers custom stationery and paper goods (party invitations, custom notepads, custom greeting cards, business designs and other collateral materials). Elei is committed to high quality and affordable design solutions that will craft your business at a very affordable and reasonable rate that will help you celebrate the most important events in your life using your style. Elei has a more personal approach in service that you cannot find in bulk websites.

A culinary break from all the land hunting stories. Segue..I have been enjoying belly dancing and zumba classes for the last few months. Even when I was in the Philippines, I joined a zumba class held at a gym-converted garage a few blocks away from home with a really cool and friendly group. I walked most mornings to get there. For tonight's dinner, after a really strenuous workout, I'd love a fresh quiche with greens. I got this recipe from my husband and I jazzed it up a little bit. Here goes:
Easy French Tuna & Potato Quiche
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of Pâte brisée / ready-made short crust pastry dough
- 1 can of tuna in brine, drained.
- 3 Large eggs
- 1 cup Crème Fraîche / heavy cream
- 3 tsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
- 1/2 cup chopped onions / shallots
- 2 tsp. Dijon Mustard
- 1 medium sized potato boiled
- 1 cup Emmental / Gruyere Cheese
- Salt
- Fresh ground pepper
Tools:
- Mixing Bowl
- Pie Baking Dish
- Fork, Spoon
- Scissors (to cut the parchment attached to the pie crust following the outline of the baking dish)
Preparation:
- Pre-heat oven to 350 Degrees F / 180 Degrees C
- Set the pie crust on a baking dish and puncture with a fork. Allow to bake for a few minutes until the dough slightly dries and take it out of the oven.
- Boil potato in salted water until tender and mash. (I'm re-using a left over baked potato.)
- Beat the eggs and the cream together in a mixing bowl. Season with salt (be generous) and grind pepper. Add the mustard, shallots/onions, parsley, and lemon juice to the mixture.
- Evenly spread the drained tuna and potato on the pie crust and sprinkle 1/2 cup grated cheese.
- On top of the filling, slowly pour in the cream mixture and make sure they're even and top it with the remaining cheese.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Serve with a salad in vinaigrette dressing.
Bon Appetit!
Love and light,
Arni
{P.S. The crust is slightly burnt and I used a cheap short crust pastry dough. Better luck next time :)}
This is very easy to make as long as you have a puff pastry dough ready to be popped in the oven. I used Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry Jam instead of blackberry and Brie. For the recipe video click here
I'm crazy about melted cheese.
Have a great week everyone!
Bon Appetit!
Love and light,
Arni
When I arrived home from the airport, I found a Chanel paper bag with a black book perched on my coffee table. It is a surprise gift from a dear friend.
The Little Black Jacket is a book by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld. An artistic compilation of photographs by Karl Lagerfeld of different accomplished celebrities; actors, models, designers, directors, musicians wearing Chanel's iconic little black jacket exhibiting their own individuality.
I'd like to post sneak peeks of the Showroom / Corporate Office Renovation project I completed. I have yet to receive full permission to take professional photographs one weekend when the office is closed. With all the traveling, this task has been stuck on the back burner.
Here are some photos of the display area during the inauguration. Check out the reception area photos here
{Note: The area rug was not the original color I've selected. This was added later after the handover of this project.}
XOXO,

After working out heavily this week, I gave in to carb craving. Throw in mozzarella on top of pepperoni, treating ourselves to a second serving was inevitable. I turned to The Pioneer Woman for her amazing Potato Skins Recipe. It was easy to make and so good at the same time. I was so happy to see my husband help himself with a third serving.
Once the potato skins were gone, I was left with a big bowl of scooped potato fillings and had no idea what to do with it. Being a believer of recycling food, I went ahead and made this anyway.
Mashed Potato Pie with Pepperoni & Mozzarella
Serves 8
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups of grated mozzarella
- 1 pack of Pepperoni
- Mashed potato fillings made of 7 small to medium sized russet potato
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- Salt and Pepper
- 2 Jars of 14 oz Pizza Sauce
- Optional: Milk
Tools: Baking Dish, Bowl, Potato Masher and an Oven
Preparation
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease the baking dish with butter.
2. In a bowl, add 1 tbsp of butter (add more if you like), salt and pepper and mix it thoroughly with the mashed potato. I added a bit of milk because I wanted it to be creamy.
3. Place the mashed potato in the baking dish, creating a bottom layer. The mashed potato will serve as a soft crust. Compress and ensure there are no holes or gaps.
4. Sprinkle minced garlic on top of the mashed potato and evenly spread the pizza sauce.
5. Fill the next layer with pepperoni. The more the tastier!
6. Coat the pepperoni layer with mozzarella.
7. Let it bake for 15-20 minutes inside the oven until the mozzarella melt beautifully into a pizza-like goodness.
Et Voila! The finished product..
Have a great weekend to you all!
XOXO,
Arni

A weekend spent lounging in this suspended beauty, buried under cushions while enjoying a riveting novel is my idea of a quiet break. I was browsing outdoor furniture from Dedon and SwingRest, a hanging sofa with a basket like structure designed by Daniel Pouzet caught my attention.
SwingRest Hanging Lounger in Natural Color {Source} |
The hanging lounger weighs 45 kg/ 99lbs with aluminium frame in electrostatic powder coating. The swiveling side table is made of solid surface material (resin and minerals) with a powder coated die-cast aluminium arm. Built with an elegant suspension system.
SwingRest Standing Lounger in Natural Color {Source} |
The standing lounger has 360 degree rotating base with aluminium frame in electrostatic powder coating and a swiveling side table in solid surface material. It can also be used as a hanging lounger.
I can imagine having one at a veranda or a suspended version above a swimming pool.
Is this a piece you'd like to have in your garden?
Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Arni
I'm currently reading the book, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma and I'm happy to share with you this quote. It's something I'd love to print on a card and post on the cubicle or fridge to get me back on track of what I'm supposed to be doing.
Have a great week everyone!
XOXO,
Arni

A formal 7-course dinner invitation. One of our dear friends, Princes volunteered to exhibit her culinary prowess for an evening of style and excellent food. Gail offered her place and kitchen (you might have seen her in previous themed party posts - Mexican Fiesta and 80's Party ).
I'm one of those who likes to put my recipes online so I could access them when I'm cooking overseas. I'm expecting a friend for lunch so I quickly thought of beef stroganoff as a perfect dish for a sumptuous meal. As I searched on my site for this recipe, I've realized I haven't posted it yet. With my camera to keep me company, I'm writing a post about this today. This recipe is so easy to make. Enjoy!
I'm so excited to share this news with you! I have perused the West Elm U.S. website so many times always wishing they'd open a store in the United Arab Emirates. When I found out West Elm indeed opened their first stylish furniture store in Dubai, I was ecstatic, that I immediately dressed up and literally drove 40 km away to Dubai Mall to check out the store for myself.
West Elm originated in Brooklyn, New York in 2002. Since then, it has become a popular destination for design afficionados in North America. Alshaya brought the brand in the Middle East with its first store opening in Kuwait, October of last year. The same company that made Pottery Barn available to the Gulf region. The West Elm Dubai Mall branch just opened last Saturday, 23rd February 2013.

I have a design crush on Chinoiserie lately. I once featured stylish wallpaper from Fromental that best illustrates this design. Chinoiserie is a french term for Chinese-esque. A European artistic style reflecting Chinese design influences that started in the 17th Century. To know more about Chinoiserie click here.

It's the first weekend where the house is silent. After a week of laughter, baby cries and busy meals at the long dining table, and kids screaming running around with all that energy bouncing off the walls, I can't help missing the happy mess.
I'd like to share here one morning activity where my niece and nephew explored their creative side with Aquarelle.

Since January, when I started the De-cluttering Series, I've been simplifying things around the house. This includes the daily skin regimen. I usually feel naked without makeup. However, my aim is to focus more on simplifying what I apply on my face daily.
