Orchid Farm

A short stop in this beautiful orchid farm was refreshing after a long drive.  After a morning hike at Eden Nature Park,we were greeted by these lovelies when we got to Yuhico Orchid Garden.

A 5-6 hectare beautifully landscaped farm of native and hybrid orchids and exotic ornamental plants, palms and trees.  It started in 1978 as a hobby of Mrs. Teofanna "Fanny" Arindaying Yuhico that everntually grew. It is not only a garden, but it now houses amenities making it an ideal venue for weddings and events, as well as a perfect tranquil getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

When we got there, gardeners were preoccupied caring for the orchids. There was a short drizzle as we walked through the mesh canopied orchid nursery.

I was captivated by the Queen of Philippine Orchid-  The Waling-Waling (Vanda Sanderiana). One of the largest species and rarest orchid in the world. It blooms only once a year.

The Waling- Waling orchid has a unique pattern and look altogether and as you can see, I couldn't help myself taking pictures of them.

How to get there?

Roughly around 10 kilometers from the city center, better reached by cab. It is situated inside Greenhills Subdivision, Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City, Philippines.  It is open daily from 7AM- 5PM. The entrance fee is Php 20.00 (50 Cents) per person.

Are you fond of orchids? Are you gifted with a green thumb?
I've never attempted taking care of orchids. Have you?

Have a great weekend!

  6. I love orchids. We were looking at some on Sunday :) I'm definitely not gifted with a green thumb and have not attempted to take care of orchids but I would love to give it a go. Maybe I should pick some up this weekend. I'm just terrified of killing them!!! Safe travels Arni xoxox
